Business-as-usual

Business as usual

(Last Updated On: )

Yes-it’s business as usual even if it is from behind your mask. In a very short space of time, we have become nations of mask wearers. It has almost become the norm to put on your mask before you go out.

It is interesting to reflect how easily we adapted to such an important safety measure and how many of us see mask-wearing as something that will go on for many months to come.

The mask approach shows just how adaptable we are and how quickly we can adjust to new circumstances, especially when they are health and safety related.

That should also be the rule when business issues disrupt our normal routine. We need to be flexible and able to adapt and revise on the fly. One of our readers recently pointed out that in our publication ‘The Art of Planning’ there is no specific reference or section on dealing with a pandemic.

They were 100% correct there is no pandemic section, however, there is always some reference to making provision for unknown contingencies. This ongoing pandemic would certainly fall into that category. In every plan that you create, you always need that ‘contingency’ fund or back-up for things that do come along unannounced but none the less must be dealt with.

Although it makes little sense to build your business plan around a potential major disaster or pandemic it does make sense to have a plan that gives the flexibility necessary to deal with such events should they ever occur.

It’s good to see more and more entrepreneurs taking the initiative and opening their business even in these difficult times-yes, it’s business a usual.
