Entrepreneurs on holiday!| A question that often pops up in our Q & A In Box is how does a real entrepreneur take a holiday – vacation?
I think the question stems from the erroneous idea that entrepreneurs are individuals that work 50 – 60 – 70 hours a week on a continuous year-round basis. While entrepreneurs are certainly ‘driven’ individuals who thrive on working and growing their business they are also smart individuals that understand the value of taking a rest from time to time. We have many times in our blogs referred to the advantages of ‘working smart’ as opposed to ‘working hard’ and the holiday/vacation aspect fits into that working smart area.
Even if you are a one-person entrepreneurial endeavour then you should definitely plan to build in some ‘time away’ from the business. But away time does not necessarily have to be weeks at a time it could simply be a day here or a day there or a long weekend. The key is to take a break from the day-to-day routine.
Entrepreneurs that we work with often indicate that their one or two days away from the business gives them an opportunity to refocus and re-energize on tasks that they are pursuing and invariably gives them a clearer insight into some of the things that they should be doing and prioritizing.
We are going to be taking our own advice and we will be taking a ‘blog holiday’ for the next few weeks.
